About the museum

The museum honors an artist dynasty from Aspach spanning three generations. The sculptor Manfred Daringer (1942–2009), a student of Fritz Wotruba, named the market municipality of Aspach as sole heir to his estate in his will and tied this to the task of establishing a foundation. The Manfred Daringer Privatstiftung then set in motion a publicly accessible museum in the village center, which has been open all year on weekends since November 16, 2013.

The focus is on Manfred Daringer's sculptures in wood, bronze, metal, terracotta, stone, marble and plaster, arranged thematically, for example by encounters, landscapes, torsos and busts, religious subjects and symbols. Personal belongings of the artist make the person behind the work tangible. The tour begins with the older family members: the academic painter Engelbert Daringer, the church painter and restorer Franz Daringer, and the wood sculptor and sundial maker Otto Daringer.

What is special about the house is its concept: most sculptures may be touched and photographed, and during the tours, companions of the sculptor tell stories from his life. The museum also includes the "Lebensweg der Kunst" trail, which links the family's works in public places around the village, as well as the originally preserved workshops and studios of Manfred and Otto Daringer, which can be viewed by prior arrangement. In 2017 the museum received the Austrian Museum Quality Seal (Österreichisches Museumsgütesiegel), which was renewed in 2022.
