About the museum
The Heimathaus Beandhaus in Geierseck is housed in an originally preserved Sölde, once the smallest form of farm. Kitchen, parlour, stable and barn lie under one roof and show how modest and arduous life on such a farmstead was, and how little space people and animals had.
In 1987 the municipality of St. Johann am Walde acquired the entire property at Geierseck 1 in order to preserve old cultural heritage and to bring the way of life of their ancestors closer to later generations. In 1988 the founding meeting of the association of the “Beandhäusler” took place; it has looked after the house ever since, and the house opened to visitors in 1990.
Today the Heimathaus occasionally hosts courses, lectures and exhibitions, and the association organises a farmers' market. The house is also a popular spot for wedding photos.
