About the museum

The Österreichisches Luftfahrtmuseum (Austrian Aviation Museum) was founded as an association in 1979. Its aim is to collect aircraft of all kinds, preserve Austrian aviation history and make it accessible to the public in an exhibition hall. The museum operates privately and independently of public subsidies; it is financed through membership fees, admissions, sponsors, donations and the museum shop, and has no paid staff.

The collection is located next to Graz Airport in the built-up area of Feldkirchen bei Graz. On display are, among others, jet aircraft from Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic, as well as from the Austrian Armed Forces (Bundesheer), plus propeller aircraft such as the Transall C-160 and the Antonov An-2, a helicopter, autogyros and gliders. The display is supplemented by aircraft engines, ejection seats, radio equipment, uniforms, models and a model aircraft exhibition.

Because the hall is too small, some exhibits stand outdoors or are in storage; building a second hall is a declared main goal of the association. Recently, among others, a Klemm L 20 from 1928 and a Bell H-13 helicopter came to the museum. Visitors can fly themselves at a PC flight simulator.

Parking available

Sufficiently large parking areas for buses; turning on the grounds is easy.

From the B67 (Triester Straße), at the roundabout next to the airport tower, go south to the turnoff to Forst; after about 200 m turn right into the museum grounds (junction with Friedrich-Schmiedl-Gasse). Older navigation devices sometimes still list the address under 8401 Kalsdorf.
