About the museum
The valley museum on the Marktstraße in Rauris is housed in an old Gewerken building that was erected in 1563. Gewerken were the entrepreneurs in mining, and a large part of the collection revolves around the valley's former gold mining. Exhibits cover the former gold mining and the mining and association life connected with Ignaz Rojacher.
In addition there is the Sonnblick room on the Sonnblick Observatory, newly staged for the 125th anniversary. A mineral exhibition, designed by the Rauriser Strahler, presents finds from the mountains of the valley, and further sections are devoted to customs and rural working life. In total the route passes through 17 exhibition rooms, which also display the valley's first skis and many other items from more recent history.
The sponsor is the market municipality of Rauris, which opens the house only in the summer half-year, with an extra opening day per week in July and August. Groups of six or more and special appointments are handled by telephone registration.
