About the museum
The museum is located in a Kellergasse (cellar lane) in Platt in the Weinviertel. Around the villages of Platt and Roseldorf, the land has been settled for more than 7,300 years. The finds on display come exclusively from excavations on site.
The exhibition leads from the Neolithic, with the Lengyel and Funnel Beaker cultures, through the Copper Age to the Bronze Age, for which influences of the Unetice culture are documented. A separate section is devoted to the Celts: on the nearby Sandberg between Platt and Roseldorf lies the largest Celtic settlement in Austria, which is also regarded as the country's oldest mint. Research there is carried out in cooperation with the Natural History Museum Vienna.
The museum is run by the market municipality of Zellerndorf. It can only be visited with a guided tour, which is included in the admission price. If you wish, you can combine the visit with the original site at the Sandberg and its lookout tower.
