About the museum
The Stieglbrauerei has been brewing in Salzburg since 1492; its name goes back to a staircase (Stiege) that once led down to the Almkanal. Today it is the largest private brewery in Salzburg. Since 1992, part of the company grounds has been open to visitors: the Stiegl Museum was set up within the walls of the old malt house on Bräuhausstraße.
Across more than 5,000 square meters, the museum tells the history of the brewery and its former and current owners against the backdrop of the Salzburg city chronicle. Historical originals stand alongside modern exhibition technology. Visitors who explore on their own can be guided through the rooms by a smartphone app; the admission ticket includes a beer tasting.
Under the name Stiegl-Brauwelt, the museum, the Braushop (brewery shop) and the restaurants form a beer experience world. The house has three restaurants (Bräustüberl, Stieglitz and Paracelsusstube), a beer garden with a playground, and the Braugewölbe, where barley used to be laid out to germinate and which today serves as an event room. Guided tours start daily; they also lead through the brewery's production halls and end with tastings.
