About the museum
The museum goes back to the collection of the twin brothers Alban and Attila Scheiber, which began with the purchase of about 40 motorcycles from a private museum in Rhineland-Palatinate. It opened in April 2016 in the "Crosspoint" at the toll station of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road in Hochgurgl; the building, constructed to plans by an architect from Hall in Tirol, also houses a panorama restaurant and the valley station of the Kirchenkar cable car.
In January 2021 a fire in the exhibition area destroyed almost all the exhibits. The museum was rebuilt and reopened with an exhibition area expanded to around 4,500 square metres.
Today, according to its own information, it shows around 580 historic motorcycles and 40 other vehicles from all the major brands since 1867, plus seven special exhibitions. A large part of the space is designed to be interactive: the "Motor Experience" includes a 4D cinema, the "Motor Wall" and technology simulations, and the stations of the KTM Motohall (a partner of the museum) let visitors experience engine sounds and vibrations. Separate sections are devoted to microcars of the 1950s and 1960s and to the expeditions of the Tyrolean explorer Max Reisch.
