About the museum
The Bunker Mooseum is the main venue of the MuseumHinterPasseier and is located in Moso in Passiria, along the Timmelsjoch road. The bunker dates from the 1940s: at that time the Italian army built, in the Val Passiria alongside other defensive works, the barrier group “Opera 3 – Sbarramento di Moso”, part of the so-called Alpine Wall (Vallo Alpino), which was meant to prevent German troops from entering via the Timmelsjoch.
Today the former storerooms and the main tunnel house the exhibition areas: an archaeology section with an excavation site uncovered during the work for the museum, the history of settlements, natural history, contemporary history and the Schneeberg mine. A spiral staircase and an internal staircase of 132 steps lead to the former fighting positions on the second floor.
The visit continues outdoors, with an ibex enclosure, an aviary with white partridges bred and released into the wild, and a climbing wall on the external facade. The museum also houses an information point of the Parco naturale Gruppo di Tessa; together with the Stieber Mooseum and Timmel Transit it forms the MuseumHinterPasseier, run by an association.
