About the museum
Around 1910 to 1912, a German industrialist had the Villa Trier built above the village center of St. Anton, surrounded by a park, to designs by Hanns Kornberger. Over the 20th century, the owners and residents changed several times; after World War II, the French general Béthouart lived in the house for a time. In the early 1970s, the municipality and the tourist board bought the building.
In 1978, the Ski and Local History Museum opened here, meant to give the village's history a permanent place. In 2008, with support from the municipality and the tourist board, it was thoroughly modernized and reshaped into a contemporary historical reference work. Since 2018, a museum association has supported its work and made special projects possible.
On the second floor, the permanent exhibition shows how the route over the Arlberg, the construction of the Arlberg railway from 1880 and later tourism transformed the former farming village. One section is devoted to skiing on the Arlberg, with the pioneers Hannes Schneider and Rudolf Gomperz and the successes of the Skiclub Arlberg. On the first floor, a restaurant complements the house.
