About the museum
The core of the museum is the Ental farmstead, which according to its ridge beam was built in 1713 in the Burgstall district of Schwendau. Most recently it belonged to the Tipotsch family, who sold it to the Kiwanis Club Zillertal; the club gave the building to the municipality of Zell am Ziller, which decided in 1991 to rebuild it as a museum. Still in the summer of 1991 the farmhouse was dismantled, each beam labeled, and later reassembled in the south of Zell; the parlor was finished in 1997.
Over time the ensemble grew: a house chapel with a fresco from 1889, a reconstructed bread oven, a wash house, a carriage house, the Löberstall barn transferred from the Tux valley and later the Reuttenstall, plus a farm garden and a well. The museum is run by the municipality together with a committed museum association.
Inside, visitors experience the living culture of the Zillertal: a paneled stone-pine parlor with a tiled stove, a kitchen with an open hearth, bedrooms with traditional costumes and furniture from the valley, and the Machkammer with old tools. Photo documentation shows events in the village, such as floods and winter sports, and introduces personalities such as the Blessed Engelbert Kolland. The high point of the year is the Museumskirchtag on August 15; civil marriage ceremonies also take place in the parlor.
