About the museum

The Provincial visitor centre Duinpanne lies in De Panne, in the middle of a varied nature area between the Calmeynbos, the Oosthoekduinen and the Westhoek reserve. The centre is the gateway to the dunes of the West Coast and the starting point for many walking and cycling routes. In November 2022 it passed the 100,000-visitor mark.

The building offers a small nature exhibition about sea, beach and dune, about the formation and settlement history of the coastal region and about life in the dunes. An eye-catcher is the North Sea aquarium with species from the surf zone. On 8 March 2025 the province of West Flanders opened the renovated dune garden next to the centre, and on 28 June 2025 the skeleton of the stranded orca Reveil, which washed ashore on the Belgian coast in October 2023, was given a place in the reception area.

The permanent exhibition Sea Change highlights six current themes about the North Sea: biodiversity, the seabed, sea level, pollution, the users of the sea and, from a panoramic tower, migratory birds and the location of the centre. The site also has a bar with terrace, an eco shop and a large playground. The centre has received the quality label for accessible tourism from Toerisme Vlaanderen.
