About the museum
The Maison des Mégalithes is on place Arsène Soreil, in the heart of the village of Wéris in the municipality of Durbuy. It serves as a reception point for discovering the megalithic site, the village and the region. The museum, created in 1994, was completely renovated in 2026. It is managed by the Cercle Historique Terre de Durbuy asbl.
The megalithic field of Wéris stretches about 8 km long and 300 m wide. It includes two covered-gallery dolmens, those of Wéris and Oppagne, the only two still visible in Belgium, as well as several menhir sites. The monuments date from the first half of the third millennium BCE and are linked to the Seine-Oise-Marne culture; they are built of local conglomerate (poudingue).
The museum explains how these monuments were erected, the associated funerary customs and the life of the first Neolithic farmers and herders. It uses information panels, multimedia sequences, models, casts, reconstructions and archaeological material. A film about the site is screened in the auditorium.
