Musées de Logne

Museums in the listed Ferme de la Bouverie in Vieuxville: life at Logne Castle, the Merovingian treasure of Vieuxville and an exhibition on bakers.

Opening hoursAdmission €9

About the museum

The Musées de Logne occupy the Ferme de la Bouverie, a listed 16th-century monument owned by the Province of Liège, in Vieuxville. They bring together three worlds spanning from the early 5th to the early 20th century: the everyday life of the “Lognards”, the inhabitants of the fortified castle, the rich archaeological collections from the Merovingian cemetery of Vieuxville, and an exhibition devoted to bakers.

The section “Vivre au château fort de Logne” draws on objects found during the excavations of the castle well (1990–2003, 56 metres deep): wooden bowls, dishes and weapons, tableware and a hoisting machine. A gallery of animated portraits (Francis I, Charles V, Érard and Robert de la Marck) recounts the siege and capture of Logne in 1521, complemented by a 3D reconstruction of the castle.

The Merovingian treasure of Vieuxville presents objects from one of the oldest Merovingian cemeteries in Wallonia (190 graves from the early 5th to the mid-7th century, discovered in 1938): weapons, jewellery, ceramics and seventy glasses at least 1,400 years old. The exhibition “Gourmandises de boulangers” evokes the bakery workshop with a collection of antique tools and demonstrations. The museums also look after the storage reserves, including collections from the castle excavations.
