About the museum
The Musée du Cycle de Weyler, near Arlon, owes its existence to Philippe Tibesar, who has been passionate about cycling all his life. After a career as an amateur racer and the founding of the Cyclo-Club de Weyler in 1976, he gathered over the years bicycles found at scrapyards, junk shops and antique dealers, and restored them with care.
The collection eventually filled the cellars, the attics and the rooms of the family home. A building of about 200 m² was therefore built to house it, and the museum was inaugurated in 1992.
The route begins with a film on the evolution of the “running machine” (the early precursor of the bicycle) up to the present day. It continues through more than 200 items grouped by theme: the evolution of the bicycle from 1819 to today, racing bicycles, utility bicycles, bicycles with special systems (shaft drives, special derailleurs) and children's bicycles. The museum also holds tax plates from 1895 to 1991, board games on the theme of cycling and some twenty mannequins in period costume. Visits are always guided.
