About the museum

Noerdange railway station opened on April 20, 1880, on the Steinfort–Ettelbruck line of the Prince-Henri company. For more than 70 years the line, also called the “Attert line,” connected Pétange with Ettelbruck and made it easier to transport people and goods to the mining areas. From 1890 to 1953, Noerdange was also the starting point of the narrow-gauge line to Martelange, which had its own station building. The last train on the Attert line ran in 1969.

In 1978 the municipality of Beckerich acquired the former station building. The ClimEEC specialist network renovated it in an environmentally friendly way, using new and traditional building techniques and insulation materials such as clay. The first floor is now a low-energy home; the museum is on the ground floor.

The museum opened on May 9, 2014, and is the first museum in the Grand Duchy dedicated to regional rail networks. On display are a model of the station from its operating days and numerous railway objects, such as hand lamps and switch signals.
