About the museum
The museum is housed in the Heemhuisje, a small Kempen farmhouse next to the Sint-Elisabethkerk in Zoersel, and is run by the Heemkundige Kring Zoersel (Zoersel local history society). Under the title “De Groot Zoerselse Geschiedenis” it tells the chronicle of three villages: Zoersel, Halle and Sint-Antonius. Until the merger in 1977 they each lived separately, each with its own past: Zoersel as a double village with West-Malle, Halle as a centuries-old lordship, and Sint-Antonius as a hamlet of Brecht.
The exhibition is built around themes such as the origins of the three villages, local agriculture, church and faith, schools, important and striking buildings, Kempen farmhouses, the “molentjes van vier”, the two world wars, villagers and the café life of the past. The museum wants to show what sets the three municipalities apart and what connects them.
