About the museum
’t Karrewiel is a private local history museum in Meeuwen, part of Oudsbergen. The founder, Christ Verheyen, began collecting the objects in 1981; the museum opened in 1986.
The collection consists of agricultural tools and household utensils. Small and large implements from farming and various crafts show what everyday life looked like about fifty years ago, including a wood-turning lathe that was originally driven by a horse-powered mill (rosmolen). Life in the household of the past also receives ample attention: cooking, baking, butter-making, washing clothes and spinning wool, each time with the evolution of the tools, from the plattebuiskachel and the Leuvense stoof to the cooking range.
