About the museum

The Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame and Saint-Domitien stands on the site of several successive sanctuaries. Of the Romanesque church consecrated in 1066 by the prince-bishop Theoduin of Bavaria, the vast crypt survives, fully restored, where the treasure is displayed. The first stone of the Gothic building was laid in 1311; the choir was completed in 1377 and the great west tower in 1463. The Rondia, the large rose window on the façade, is the largest rayonnant Gothic rose window in Wallonia.

The collegiate treasury, fully restored in 2012, brings together Mosan reliquaries, precious textiles, medieval and baroque sculptures and pieces of goldsmith's work. It bears witness to the patronage of the prince-bishops of Liège and to the talent of the artists and craftsmen of the region.

Nearby, the Bethléem portal is one of Huy's curiosities; its sculpted 14th-century tympanum is the only one fully preserved in the Meuse region. The collegiate church itself is free to visit, while the treasury visit is paid.
