About the museum
The Musée belge du Génie is the only museum devoted to the Engineers branch of the Belgian Armed Forces. It is a military, national and bilingual museum, run by volunteers in an asbl, who manage the historical documentation centre, maintain the machines and vehicles, and provide reception and guided tours. The museum was long housed in Amay; it now has a new address in Ampsin, rue Campagne.
The museum includes a reception room with a 12-minute introductory film, a hall of traditions decorated with insignia, flags of veterans' associations and tributes to great figures of the Engineers, and a large exhibition space. The latter traces the history of the Engineers from 1830 to the present, their presence in Africa and their role in the Resistance, with old documents, uniforms, scale models of machines and models of fortifications (Brialmont, First World War).
On the outdoor route called the “Archéodrome”, machines, vehicles and bridging equipment used by the Belgian Engineers since the Second World War illustrate their combat engineering, construction and bridging missions. A documentation centre is accessible by appointment.
