About the museum
The Atelijer is the former workspace of the painter Đuro Pulitika (Bosanka near Dubrovnik, 1922 – Dubrovnik, 2006). Pulitika attended the Akademija likovnih umjetnosti (Academy of Fine Arts) in Zagreb from 1941, and completed his art school in Cetinje in 1950. Together with Antun Masle and Ivo Dulčić he forms the well-known Dubrovnik trio of painters.
The painter bequeathed one work to the Umjetnička galerija Dubrovnik and 64 works to the Galerija Dulčić Masle Pulitika. The Atelijer has been part of the Umjetnička galerija Dubrovnik since the beginning of 2008, when the first exhibition, “Slike osobne Arkadije”, opened in February. The permanent exhibition opened on 11 June 2019; the expert concept and the display were designed by Rozana Vojvoda.
The paintings created in the room where the painter worked follow his development, from early drawings and watercolours to mature works influenced by Petar Lubarda and Ivo Dulčić. The central theme is the Dubrovnik landscape, shown in stylised forms and strong colours, and motifs recur such as cats with fish, old captains, nudes, interiors, fruit, flowers, hills and small houses.
