About the museum
The Centar dr. Rudolfa Steinera was established by agreement between Međimurje County and the Municipality of Donji Kraljevec of 7 December 2007 (amended on 17 March 2008). Rudolf Steiner, the best-known person born in Međimurje, was the founder of anthroposophy, Waldorf pedagogy, eurythmy, anthroposophical medicine, organic architecture and biodynamic agriculture. He spent only a year and a half of his life in Donji Kraljevec.
The visitor centre is housed in a building designed according to the principles of organic architecture. The display presents Steiner’s life path, and lectures and practical workshops on Steiner’s teaching, especially on biodynamic agriculture, are held in the halls. The centre is also a reference centre in Croatia for the national programme of biodynamic agriculture.
The centre also manages the birth house of Dr Rudolf Steiner, an original 19th-century building in the courtyard of a family house at Ludbreška 13, identified in 1966. The centre organises educational workshops for all age groups and offers visits to Bohnecov grunt (Bohnec’s farmstead), a traditional wooden house with an ethnographic collection in Donji Hrašćan. The centre is part of the network of the Ekomuzej Međimurje.
