About the museum
The Muzej Croata insulanus Grada Preloga opened on 19 March 2013; as an institution it was founded by decision of the town in 2014. It is housed in a historicist building from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, which is part of a row of representative architecture on the north side of Glavna ulica. The merchant Viktor Kramarić had it built as a commercial and residential building.
The first land register entry of the building in the name of the Kramarić family dates from 1912. From 1929 to 1942 the owner was Ljudevit Šoštarić, director of the bank in Prelog, who sold the building together with its outbuildings and a large orchard to the Hungarian state. In 1943 the Hungarian state opened the Državna poljoprivredna narodna škola (State Agricultural People’s School) there. From 1946 the building was socially owned, and since 1995 the owner has been the town of Prelog.
The permanent display on the first floor contains the donated collection of Prof. Dr. Matija Berljak, with works by pioneers of naive art, among them Ivan Generalić, Franjo Mraz, Ivan Večenaj, Ivan Rabuzin and Ivan Lacković Croata. Most of the works are by Ivan Lacković Croata.
