About the museum

The museum, Muzej pobjede i oslobođenja Dalmacije, was ceremoniously opened on 5 November 2016, on the anniversary of Šibenik's liberation from fascist and Nazi occupation. It operates under the auspices of the Zajednica udruga antifašističkih boraca i antifašista Šibensko-kninske županije and is located on the ground floor of one of the palaces in the historic centre of Šibenik.

The display presents, in a contemporary and interactive way and in chronological order, the organised resistance of the people of Dalmatia against the occupiers, the organisation of partisan units, everyday life under wartime conditions and the role of the civilian population. The emphasis is on the liberation of Split, Šibenik, Knin and Zadar in the final phases of the war and on the offensive of the Osmi dalmatinski korpus (Eighth Dalmatian Corps).

Original documents, wartime photographs, propaganda posters and personal items of fighters are on display, along with interactive interfaces and a small multimedia hall in a former cistern of the palace. In addition to the permanent display, temporary themed exhibitions are organised.
