About the museum
The museum was founded in 1960 and is housed in the Palača Battiala-Lazzarini in the old town of Labin. The palace was built around 1630, and its façade dates from 1727. Until the 19th century it was the residence of the Battiala family, after which it passed into joint ownership of the Battiala and Lazzarini families.
The permanent display presents the history of Labin chronologically, with interactive points and the mining heritage of the town, including a replica of a mine 150 metres long. The museum also includes the Memorijalna zbirka Matije Vlačića Ilirika (Memorial Collection of Matija Vlačić Ilirik) and the Zbirka sakralne umjetnosti (Collection of Sacred Art). In the atrium is part of the portal of the former Palača Luciani (Luciani Palace).
