About the museum
The idea of a museum of radio broadcasting and exhibition spaces for Czech Radio is about twenty years old. A suitable place was found only after the complete reconstruction of the historic building on Vinohradská Street. Visitors first saw the exhibition under construction at the Open Day in June 2014, and in the summer of the same year the rooms were named Galerie Vinohradská 12.
The gallery has four rooms: an entrance area, an exhibition space, a historical display and a conference hall. In the exhibition space, paintings, drawings or photographs change roughly every month. The historical display presents a timeline of radio broadcasting, the development of recording media and technology, historic radio receivers, period magazines and other artefacts, among them a crystal set, wired radio, the Nagra III reporter's tape recorder and the red On Air light.
The conference hall is used for public listening sessions of radio works and for recording live programmes. The tour of every group that takes part in an excursion to the Czech Radio building also begins here.
