About the museum
The Muzeum československých legií (Museum of the Czechoslovak Legions) opened in 2018 in the basement of the Legie Hotel in Prague, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the independent state. It is run by the Czechoslovak Legionnaires’ Association, whose headquarters are in the same building, and it opened thanks to financial support from the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic.
The museum’s aim is to help preserve cultural heritage and strengthen ties with military traditions. The exhibition focuses on the First Resistance and explains the creation of the Czechoslovak Legions and of the state itself; it displays rare objects from the estates of legionnaires. The museum includes a research and digitisation centre with a library, where information about the Legions and legionnaires is made available, and where historic documents and three-dimensional exhibits are digitised.
The building also has a small lecture hall for lectures, talks and screenings of period films and photographs. The education centre offers Prague primary and secondary schools interactive lectures on the history of the founding of the independent state.
