About the museum
The manorial granary in Brtnice is part of the extensive former manorial farmstead in Horní Město, not far from the château. It was built in connection with the development of manorial estate management at the end of the 16th century, and after a fire at the château brewery in 1760 it received a new mansard roof. In 1851–1852 the farmstead was partly rebuilt under Prince Collalto and supplemented with further farm buildings; after 1945 it passed to the state agricultural administration.
The town of Brtnice acquired the building at auction in 2014, and two years later it was declared a cultural monument, after which its comprehensive restoration began. Preserved features include Renaissance stone window surrounds in the gables, the original central entrance with a stone portal, a Baroque roof truss and Renaissance sgraffito rustication on the plaster.
The renovated premises now house the Městské muzeum Brtnice, which is run by the Regionální muzeum Horního Pooslaví. The exhibitions present the traditional crafts of the Brtnice region, an old school, a collection of historical sewing machines and a gallery of works from an international meeting of artistic blacksmiths.
