About the museum
The public benefit company LABYRINT BOHEMIA, renamed IQLANDIA in 2014, was founded in 2002 with the aim of bringing the concept of informal, hands-on learning in museums to the Czech Republic. In September 2004 it opened the Muzeum zábavného poznání (Museum of Fun Knowledge) in the Babylon entertainment centre in Liberec, the first hands-on museum in the country, and in May 2007 iQPARK followed with about 200 interactive exhibits.
In March 2014 the science centre iQLANDIA opened in Liberec. Across six floors it offers ten exhibitions with several hundred interactive exhibits, a planetarium, school programmes and science shows. In 2016 the exhibitions Kosmo and Outdated Inventions (Překonané vynálezy) were added, and the planetarium switched to 4K resolution. In 2019 the co-working workshop iQFABLAB was created, and in 2021 the Crystal Trail “Sklo a moře” (Glass and Sea), created in cooperation with the company Preciosa.
iQLANDIA is aimed mainly at children aged eight and over and at adults. Younger children (roughly 3–8 years) have their own area in iQPARK, which is in the neighbouring grounds of the Babylon Centre, about a hundred metres away. From 24 August 2026 the laboratories and the auditorium are being modernised, and the GEO exhibition is temporarily closed.
