About the museum

The museum is housed in Dům U Osla on Jánský vršek, not far from Prague Castle. According to the exhibition, the alchemist Edward Kelley lived here during the reign of Emperor Rudolf II and spent the last three years of his life in the house. The house is therefore linked to the stories of Rudolphine Prague, when alchemists, physicians and scholars gathered at the emperor's court.

The tour begins on the ground floor with an informative and interactive exhibition. Texts by experts, including professors from Charles University, explain alchemy and the personalities associated with it, from the alchemists themselves to Charles IV and William Shakespeare. Visitors can enter the room of Faust's House with legends about the alchemists and magicians of old Prague.

A winding staircase, whose design is attributed to Kelley, leads up to the attic laboratory. A guide takes visitors through two rooms that recall the laboratory of Edward Kelley and shows the cauldrons and equipment of the Rudolphine alchemists. The house also contains the alchemical pub Kellyxír, where visitors with a ticket receive a discount. The museum is run by the company CZ Kelley s.r.o. as part of the Mysteria Pragensia project.
