About the museum
The museum in Bojkovice has its roots in 1931, when the Muzeum Bojkovska was founded under the management of the Musejní spolek (Museum Society). Its first curator was the teacher Alois Jašek, and the collections were initially kept in the building of the civic school. Later the exhibitions focused on the earliest history of the region, crafts, housing, economy and spiritual life.
From 1950 to 1954 the town managed the museum, and the collections moved to the Světlovský důchod. In 1960 the exhibition Život lidu na Bojkovsku (Life of the People in the Bojkovsko Region) opened in the Nový Světlov chateau. In 1992–1999 the town again took over the collections. In 2010 the museum became a municipal contributory organisation based on Palackého Street, and in 2011 the first part of the new exhibitions opened there. Since 2012 the museum has also operated the local tourist information centre.
The current exhibition covers the prehistory of Bojkovsko, crafts and trades, the justice system, a folk house with a farmstead, art and spiritual life, a historic flat, a school classroom, a chateau exhibition and, since 2016, an exhibition on Moravská Kopanice with a reconstructed cottage. In 2022 the museum also opened house no. 302 in Potok, which received the Lidová stavba Zlínského kraje 2022 award (Folk Building of the Zlín Region).
