About the museum
The village of Komňa lies in the Slovácko region, and its first written mention dates from 1261. The Jan Amos Komenský Memorial was set up in a protected granary dating from 1774. It was solemnly opened in 1992, when the 400th anniversary of the birth of the teacher of nations was celebrated.
The memorial is managed by the Association for the Commemoration of J. A. Komenský. The permanent exhibition is devoted to the history of the village and to the personality of Jan Amos Komenský. The exhibition also includes collections of village objects, period tools and furniture, and archaeological finds from the nearby Zuvačov Castle, which was already mentioned as deserted in 1517.
