About the museum

The Muzeum českých Vánoc is a private museum, and its operation is financed mainly from admission fees, donations and one-off help from partners. The building was created in 2018 with the support of the Ministry for Regional Development and mainly complements the range of tourist attractions in winter. The museum originally focused on beekeeping and wood carving. In 2024 its focus changed, and since October 2024 an exhibition of nativity scenes has been on view all year round.

The exhibition is continually renewed in cooperation with other museums, authors and collectors. Some nativity scenes are still being added to by their makers, for example Dand’s mechanical nativity scene and the Great Nativity of Stories, which is 10 metres long. The museum also holds short-term exhibitions by artists and meetings of nativity-scene makers, who create together here.

The grounds also include the Včelín Ořech bee house, which is accessible from mid-April to the end of July. Between the museum and the bee house lies the Kouzelná zahrada (Magic Garden), inspired by the life and work of Baron Karl Friedrich Hieronymus von Münchhausen. Part of his collection of large artefacts is made accessible in the garden at one-off events or by prior arrangement.
