About the museum
The museum is housed in the western wing of the château in Žihobce, where since 2012 it has shared the building with an information centre. The entire facility, including the museum, is step-free.
The exhibition tells the story of the château, the Lamberg family and the villages of their estate. The Lambergs are an Austrian noble family documented from the beginning of the 13th century; Johann Philipp of Lamberg, Bishop of Passau, bought Žihobce among other properties, and Gustav Joachim Lamberg (1812–1862) was friends with the Šumava writer Adalbert Stifter.
The third part is devoted to the nature of Pošumaví, especially the lesser horseshoe bat. The attic of the château is the summer colony of this rare species, and the site is of European importance. On the ground floor, seasonal exhibitions alternate.
