About the museum

The museum is housed in the former foundry of the Kopřivnice car factory from 1911, which is owned by the Moravian-Silesian Region. The building was reconstructed from March 2019 to December 2020 at a cost of CZK 173 million, and the museum opened to the public on 17 November 2021. Most of the exhibits come from the collection of Jiří Hlach, which Tatra acquired in 2015.

The exhibition is arranged in 14 thematic sections in chronological order. It begins with carriages by Ignác Šustala and a replica of the first NW lorry from 1898, continues with interwar vehicles including the Tatra 23 “Buldok” and wartime vehicles such as the Tatra 111. Further sections are devoted to postwar production up to 1989 – the Tatra 805, 138, 148, 813 and 815 – and to production after the Velvet Revolution. Special sections are dedicated to Tatras in fire brigade service, expedition and sports vehicles, and armoured vehicles.

The museum is a branch of the Muzeum Novojičínska (Nový Jičín Museum) and, together with the Tatra Passenger Car Museum, forms the Muzeum Tatra Kopřivnice (Tatra Museum Kopřivnice).
