About the museum
The Zdeněk Burian Museum in Štramberk is dedicated to the painter and illustrator Zdeněk Burian, known above all for his paintings of the prehistoric world. Since 1992 the exhibition on his life and work has been housed in the former butcher's shops and slaughterhouse in house no. 456 on Zauličí Street, where the town museum was also located until 2011.
On the 30th anniversary of Burian's death, which fell on 1 July 2011, the exhibition moved to house no. 31 on the square. The building also houses an exhibition of the Muzeum Novojičínska and the town information centre. The museum building, together with the neighbouring Wallachian log well, is a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The permanent exhibition is open all year round and is changed regularly; it includes original works and reproductions, and it is complemented by the sale of current literature with Burian's illustrations. Occasional exhibitions related to Burian's work are held in the U Zlatého klíče gallery. According to the website, the museum building will be closed for an indefinite period in 2026 due to reconstruction.
