About the museum
The museum was founded on 3 October 1997 as the Technické muzeum Tatra at the Regional Museum in Kopřivnice and is housed in a building on Záhumenní Street. Its collection is one of the most comprehensive company collections in the country; it began to take shape in the early 1950s, and most of the vehicles on display are registered as movable cultural monuments.
After the Regional Museum Tatra Kopřivnice was dissolved, the Muzeum Novojičínska took over operation from April 2024, and the branch was renamed Muzeum osobních automobilů Tatra. Together with the Muzeum nákladních automobilů Tatra, it forms the Muzeum Tatra Kopřivnice.
The tour begins with a rotating replica of the Präsident car from 1898 and leads through the first cars of the Kopřivnice automobile works, the “malá Tatra 11” and the largest series of passenger Tatras, the T 57, into the aerodynamic hall with streamlined limousines. On the second floor are off-road prototypes, cars with water-cooled engines, sports and racing cars, and representative limousines, from the T 603 and T 613 to the T 700, which closes the century-long tradition of passenger car production in Kopřivnice.
