About the museum

The village of Lidice near Kladno was burned down by the Nazis in June 1942 after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. The men were shot, and the women and most of the children were taken to concentration camps. On the site of the destroyed village lies the memorial area, which is a national cultural monument, and a new village was built nearby.

The Muzeum Památníku Lidice stands at the entrance to the memorial area. The building houses the permanent exhibition “A nevinní byli vinni…”, opened in 2006. Visitors walk through a concrete labyrinth, on whose walls archive footage, photographs and newly filmed scenes in the style of old home movies are projected. The exhibition has a commemorative rather than encyclopaedic character and is supplemented by several surviving objects from the burned village.

The museum is run by the Památník Lidice, a contributory organisation of the Ministry of Culture. One ticket also gives access to the Lidická galerie, the family house no. 116, the memorial area and the Růžový sad. The small exhibition halls Pod Tribunou and In Memoriam are located next to the museum and are free of charge.
