About the museum

The infantry bunker OP-S 10 Křižovatka stands about one kilometre west of Velké Hoštice, at the junction of road I/56 and the railway line to Hlučín. It was built in the second half of the 1930s in heavy resistance class, with walls up to 275 cm thick and a roof 250 cm thick, as part of the Czechoslovak fortifications along the northern border. Its armament consisted of an anti-tank cannon with a heavy machine gun, a twin heavy machine gun and light machine guns.

Shortly after Munich the Germans devastated the bunker and removed its armoured elements. In spring 1945 the retreating German army hastily repaired it and prepared it for defence; during the capture of the bunker, an explosion of German ammunition occurred, and its traces are still visible today.

From the 1980s the bunker has been gradually restored; one of the armoured bells was installed, and a small museum was set up here. The exhibition presents the pre-war and wartime periods, including displays of equipment from the Wehrmacht, the Czechoslovak army and the Red Army. The museum is run by the Klub vojenské historie Hlučínsko – Hultschiner Ländchen (Military History Club Hlučínsko – Hultschiner Ländchen).
