About the museum
The Raduň fortified manor is first documented, probably around 1320, on a hill above today's village. In the 16th century it was rebuilt as a Renaissance chateau and later received Baroque alterations. In the 19th century Count Jan Josef Larisch-Mönnich had the chateau rebuilt in the Classicist style, but he died before it was finished; his widow, Anna Marie Tekla, continued the work and at the same time reorganised the estate. The farm buildings were moved aside, and near the chateau an orangery, a herb and fig garden, a pineapple house, an orchard and an English park were created.
At the beginning of the 1830s Gebhard Blücher, a grandson of a Prussian field marshal, married into the estate, and the Blücher family made Raduň a comfortable year-round residence. At the beginning of the 20th century mansard extensions were added to the south and north wings, and the chateau received modern facilities. The last owner, Count Alexander Blücher, left for abroad in 1949 after his request to cancel the confiscation failed.
After the war the estate was administered by the Ministry of Agriculture, and the chateau served as an agricultural school, flats and a local school. Around 1977 collections and furnishings from the chateau at Hradec nad Moravicí, which was under repair, were temporarily stored here; in 1983–1984 about ten thousand art-historical objects and almost twenty thousand volumes of books arrived. The interiors show the original function of the rooms: the upper floor belonged to the family, the ground floor to the children and servants. Today the chateau is managed by the National Heritage Institute (NPÚ).
