About the museum

The memorial stands in the house that is linked with the famous native Karel Havlíček Borovský, after whom the house and the whole village are named. The museum was solemnly opened here in 1931. The relief in the gable of the house was unveiled as early as 1862, at the first Havlíček celebrations. The building is a national cultural monument.

The main permanent exhibition presents the life and work of the poet, journalist and politician. Two separate exhibitions are placed in the other exhibition rooms: one is devoted to the pilot Josef Stránský and other members of the 311th RAF Squadron from the Vysočina region who fell in the war; the other to the sculptor Viktor Dobrovolný.

The memorial is also the starting point of the Karel Havlíček Borovský educational trail, created in October 2022, which leads through places associated with his personality. Visitors can pick up a map with a QR code at the museum. Those who do not manage to take a guided tour can listen to a shortened commentary on their mobile phone and view some period documents in the digital archive.
