About the museum

The painter, graphic artist and stage designer Jan Zrzavý (1890–1977) was born in nearby Okrouhlice, but he had a strong bond with Krucemburk. In accordance with his wish he is also buried in the village; his grave can be found by the Catholic church on Jan Zrzavý Square.

The memorial room was opened on 8 June 2002 together with the tourist information centre, in the building of the market town’s office on Jan Zrzavý Square. The artist’s legacy in the village has long been supported by the Společnost Jana Zrzavého (Jan Zrzavý Society), founded in 1993.

The exhibition presents the artist’s life and his relationship with Krucemburk. A substantial part of it consists of rich pictorial documentation, including reproductions of important works by Zrzavý. The room is part of the information centre, and access to it is therefore governed by its opening hours. The recommended length of a visit is about an hour and a half.
