About the museum

The Pertoltice open-air museum near Frýdlant has been developed by the Lidové stavby association since 2010. It is based on the idea of protecting folk buildings on the very site where they have survived, and supplementing them with an exhibition about their former owners and the surrounding region. Repairs followed detailed documentation and were carried out with as little intervention as possible, so that the buildings remain authentic.

The main building is the Hasler House, no. 198, a two-storey half-timbered house from the late 18th century, originally of the podstávkový type. The age of its timber structures was determined by dendrochronology. The house takes its name from its earlier owners and was listed as an immovable cultural monument in 2012. A working black kitchen is located in the hallway; on the upper floor, the original windows, interior shutters and much of the flooring have survived. The house is accompanied by a barn of exposed brickwork from the first half of the 20th century.

The second building open to visitors is a brick village forge from 1893. The exhibition shows folk furniture, agricultural and craft tools, and village life from the second half of the 19th century. Depending on interest, cooking in the black kitchen, bread baking and blacksmithing are demonstrated. In 2026 the open-air museum is not normally open, and visits take place by arrangement by phone.
