About the museum

Bunker T-S 19 Turov is part of the Czechoslovak border fortifications from 1935–1938 in the Náchod and Trutnov areas. It stands on the northern slope of the Jestřebí hory in the Maternice forest, to the left of the road between Stárkov and Červený Kostelec, at a sharp right-hand bend. Together with the neighbouring bunker T-S 20 “Na pláni” it was meant to prevent the enemy from passing through the Jestřebí hory, and it forms the fortified closure at Chlívce.

The bunker was built by the Prague firm Ing. Josef Filip; concreting took place from 12 to 15 May 1938. It was designed to the second degree of resistance for a crew of 29 men. The structure was completed, but parts such as armoured cupolas, a diesel generator and a pump were missing. After the occupation of the border region, the German army tested the resistance of the concrete and the effectiveness of weapons on the structure; traces of these tests can still be seen on the bunker today.

Since 2009 the bunker has been reconstructed and opened to the public by the Klub vojenské historie T-S 19 Turov (military history club). Inside, visitors can see the progress of the reconstruction, building details, a collection of historical photographs of the structure, a sectional model and a relief map of the surroundings. The club is also preparing a museum devoted to the Czechoslovak fortifications and the Second World War, with links to the Broumov region. Many other remains of fortifications survive in the vicinity of the bunker.
