About the museum
The log building was erected in the 1790s by Jakub Jirásek. A small living room was added behind the entrance hall; at the back stood a cowshed and behind it a stable, and at right angles to them a barn. The outbuildings were later demolished. The cottage is an example of traditional folk architecture from the late 18th century.
On 23 August 1851 Alois Jirásek, one of the most important Czech writers, was born in the house; his father Josef ran a bakery here. In 1925 the town of Hronov bought the building, and in 1955–1957 it had it reconstructed.
Today the cottage is managed by the Muzeum Náchodska. Visitors can see the atmosphere of a family bakery, with non-original equipment and folk furniture.
