About the museum
VIDA! science centre is housed in the former Pavilion D of the Brno Exhibition Centre. The entrance is from Křížkovského Street, and visitors enter through a large sheet-metal trunk. The operator is the JINTEK institute, which was established by the South Moravian Region. The centre takes part in educational and international projects promoting science, such as Moravian Science Centre Brno, VIDA! for schools and Science Inspired.
The exhibition covers more than 6,200 m² and includes over 180 interactive exhibits. The permanent exhibition is divided into six thematic areas: Planeta, Civilizace, Člověk, Mikrosvět, the Dětské science centrum (Children’s Science Centre) for children aged 2 to 6, and an outdoor exhibition, which is open from May to September. Visitors can, for example, create a tornado, withstand a simulated earthquake, build the centre of Brno out of Lego, listen to their own heartbeat in a giant heart or explore the world under a microscope.
New exhibits are added regularly; in 2026, for example, a set of eight exhibits made by employees and the Future Box installation with projections and giant mirrors were added. The largest renewal of the exhibition is also under way: the Children’s Science Centre is being rebuilt into six zones for the youngest visitors, including a water world, underground, farm and garden, a miniature town, a magic forest and a crawling area. Some exhibits have been moved temporarily to the gallery on the 3rd floor, and according to the museum, a new section is due to open at the beginning of 2027.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, VIDA! offers the VIDA! science show, weekend experiment workshops, a Bastlírna (makers’ workshop), school programmes, birthday parties and evening events for adults.
