About the museum

Bohumil Hrabal bought the cottage on the north-western edge of the Kersko forest in 1965 from the Trnka sisters, with his first literary fees. The original weekend house was built in 1940, and Hrabal stayed in it on and off for more than 30 years, until the end of 1996.

A later owner adapted the cottage to his own needs. At the turn of 2021 and 2022 the Central Bohemian Region bought it, and since February 2022 it has been managed by the Polabské muzeum. Restoration followed, during which later alterations were removed and features typical of Hrabal's time were restored.

The museum does not want to create another large Hrabal museum; the main exhibition remains in the Vlastivědné muzeum Nymburk. The aim is to preserve the place where Hrabal liked to stay and write, and to recall the history of the Kersko settlement and its use in film, for example the filming of Slavnosti sněženek (Snowdrop Festival) by director Jiří Menzel.

The price is for a guided tour. Online tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged for another date. Groups of more than 7 people cannot be accommodated at present.
