About the museum
The château in Valašské Meziříčí received its present Empire form through a rebuilding under Count Eugen Kinsky (1815–1885) in the mid-19th century. His son Rudolf Kinsky (1854–1921) lost the château at an auction in 1913. The last noble owner was Count Ladislav Seilern-Aspang (1886–1976); during the First World War the château served as a military infirmary, and in 1943 the Seilerns sold it to the town.
The museum has been housed in the château since 1948, when a local association prevented a planned conversion into flats. Reconstructions took place in 1972–1988 and again in 2019–2021 (according to the introduction, until 2022). The château park, dating from the late 18th and early 19th century, belongs to the town.
Today the château serves the Muzeum regionu Valašsko (Valašsko Regional Museum); the château has three separate rooms for short-term exhibitions.
