About the museum
After the murder of Albrecht of Wallenstein, the Baroque castle in Mnichovo Hradiště became the property of the Wallenstein family, who owned it until 1945. In 1833 a meeting of the Holy Alliance took place in the castle. The Wallensteins also owned the castle in Duchcov until 1923; after its sale to the state they kept the library.
The visitor operation includes three circuits. The basic circuit, Interiors of the 18th Century, leads through richly decorated Baroque rooms and lasts about 50 minutes. The second circuit, Church and Chapel, gives access to the sacred interior of the Church of the Three Kings and to the chapel of St Anne with the tomb of Albrecht of Wallenstein, a lapidarium of Baroque sculptures and a permanent panel exhibition on the final resting place of Albrecht of Wallenstein.
The third circuit is the castle garden with the Baroque sala terrena, which can be walked freely; a view into the sala terrena is occasionally possible. For children aged 4 to 9 a children's tour is prepared with a guide in the costume of a countess, whose story tells of two knights, long-ago owners of the castle. The castle is managed by the National Heritage Institute.
