Bindeballe Købmandsgård
Historic merchant's farmstead from 1897 in Vejle Ådal with an old-style store, café and a museum with over 5,000 goods and enamel signs.
About the museum
When the railway line from Vejle to Vandel opened through Vejle Ådal in September 1897, Jeppe Kristensen founded a merchant's farmstead opposite Bindeballe station, expecting a small village to grow up around the stop. Travelers could leave their horses in the stable next to the warehouse before taking the train to Vejle. The railway was closed in 1957, but trade at the merchant's farmstead continued without interruption.
In 1973, Maja and Reinholdt Jensen took over the farm and set out to restore its appearance, furnishings and operation to the state of 1897. Old shop counters from the attic were restored, and over the years the couple collected enamel signs, original goods, price lists and inventory. To be able to display the growing collection, the old storerooms were also fitted out.
Today the exhibition comprises more than 5,000 goods and furnishings; the store and museum appear in the original colors of the founding period. The couple donated the collection to an independent institution, which has run the merchant's farmstead ever since and puts the proceeds from store sales into its upkeep.
