About the museum

The Øresund has always been one of the most important shipping routes between the Baltic Sea and the world's oceans, and its shoals made the passage dangerous. From Dragør, pilots guided ships safely through the channel. Their station at the old harbor dates from 1823; the striking pilot tower, about 16 meters high, from which the pilots watched for ships, was added in 1912.

The pilot station is preserved exactly as it looked in 1984. Since 2011, Museum Amager has shown it as Lodsmuseet. On the first floor are the common room, offices, and the chart room with original nautical charts, pilot books, logbooks, and instruments; on the second floor the kitchen, sleeping quarters, and the boatmen's room with a view of the tower.

The museum also includes the pilot boat "Ravnen", which was built to go out quickly and nimbly to ships in any weather. Since 2018, volunteers have been restoring the boat together with Museum Amager and the Skibsbevaringsfonden in an open workshop where visitors can watch.
